TOOL2: Guidelines for the planning of web based training courses PDF Print E-mail

The designing of a web based course is one of the most significant moments of the whole process. It is a very delicate phase that requires a careful analysis of the context, the potential participants (their abilities, motivations, etc.), a good knowledge of the didactic methodologies and supporting technologies.

In order to preserve the creational-functional aspect of the planning, it has been necessary to create an open tool able to provide only guidelines for the planning; it is a sort of checklist that can be used by people involved in the designing of a web based course to foster considerations on the need of implementing some strategies with an analysis of the relation costs-benefits.

The areas that have been identified are mainly two: one is the planning of the training process and one is the planning of the costs for the technologies, contents and the course itself.

Elements and Indicators for the evaluation of the E-Learning PDF Print E-mail

Our aim is to define an innovative system of indicators, which proposes not only the traditional evaluation elements, but also the peculiar elements of E-Learning, supported by technologies. The final aim of the system is to evaluate the effectiveness of a web based training activity.
The evaluation of the effectiveness of a web based training activity is not so different from the evaluation of a traditional training activity, but it uses different tools. It is necessary to make an:
  • Evaluation of the training project which includes the examination of the correspondence between the planned and the implemented activities;
  • Evaluation of the training through a research activity and identification of the changes in the competences and performance of the participants.

Most of the international studies on evaluation have their origin in the famous training evaluation model of Kirkpatrick which is nowadays still used (at least in its basic version). The model proposed by Kirkpatrick is based on four evaluation levels; the levels are characterized by a growing complexity: each level leads to a more accurate evaluation of the training effectiveness and, at the same time, it requires a more strict and longer analysis.
